Achievable Dream Middle and High School (formerly Briar field Elementary School) opened its doors Wednesday July 17th, 2007. This opening included the addition of a new library and media center. IONIC, in conjunction with a lead architectural firm, James River Architects, designed the interiors for this addition. The refurbished school is equipped with a new 3,700-square-foot library space, located along the front of the newly renovated exterior. This state-of-the-art media center has walls of curved glass that allow in plenty of natural light. The media center design incorporates the school’s business-like attitude but with a twist. Bright orange columns outline the space and a spiral pattern on the carpet guides visitors through. Bookshelves line one side of the main circulation path and comfortable chairs and custom end tables are tucked in between for private reading areas. Each of the bookshelves incorporates a unique end panel engraved with inspirational quotes.
The main space includes tables and chairs for larger group work with a saucer-like pendant light floating above each table. The rear of the space includes an extensive computer lab. The main circulation desk acts as an anchor point for the entire space, allowing the librarians to observe the students and the main doors. Perhaps the most eye-catching features of the entire space are the light fixtures. A Venetian glass sculpture with bright green glass leaves climbing gracefully out of an orange vase hangs above the reception desk. The entire area is highlighted by a circular green and teal ceiling soffit.
