Typical with many of our early clients, 1 Atlantic already knew “exactly what they wanted”; they just needed someone to bring it to fruition. After taking a look at a newly-completed office space designed by Ionic DeZign Studios, the client chose to turn its creativity over to Ionic. The concept was based on the Phoenix Rising out of the Ashes…
Our client's business brings them into the lives of their customers after disaster strikes. Flood or fire, they collect the retrievable contents of the homes, and clean and store their personal belongings while st the home is being repaired. 1 Atlantic's office was the embodiment of this idea, however, the design was frozen somewhere in time between chaos and order. This is clearly reflected in the use of materials throughout the space.
The first visual identity is experienced as you enter the front door where a slanted, angular, fire-engine red wall vaults up from the floor to head-height with exposed metal studs continuing up toward the ceiling. Concealed fluorescent lighting accents the contradiction in materials. Twenty-two panels of frameless glass panels march down the main circulation path, frosted with billboards and graphics which reflect the undulated ceiling and corrugated office partitions. Tilted and staggered archways, leading into the executive offices, align the rear wall. The opposite wall features a series of wood slats and cables, representative of crates used to shelter our client’s customers’ belongings.
