Shore Christian Academy has rapidly outgrown their existing facility and has commissioned IONIC to provide design services for a new building. Design has begun on a new 6-acre site for a 22,000 square foot private Christian school. The K-12 plan includes two multi-purpose classrooms per grade, a media center and gymnasium. Master plan features include: vehicular circulation, outdoor activity center, anticipated facility expansion and future site enhancements.
The building design utilizes a linear arrangement where the classrooms, library and staff offices branch off from a central circulation spine. This central space is filled with natural light from clearstory Kalwall windows above. The lighthouse rotunda stands at the center axis displaying the school motto, "A Light Unto My Path.” This rotunda also displays the school’s achievements and accomplishments.
In order to maximize the value, the design team utilized metal components for the majority of the structural needs. To minimize utility concerns, the design team took advantage of thermal translucent panels to maximize day lighting within the entry and corridor spaces. The design team had to be creative and use wells for the water sources and septic fields for drainage because this is a rural site.
